MOUNTAIN & OCEAN

Snowy mountains of sweeping vistas and rugged peaks seen from high vantage points are notoriously difficult things for cameras to capture since they are bright and framing them often includes fast-moving subject matter. Trees absorb light during grey days and add contrast to the snow. Having the sun directly behind you creates a huge amount of reflected light and the snow will lose all it’s definition. Keeping the sun to your side, the undulations and textures in the snow will be revealed by the shadows cast across them. This creates a much more contrasting and interesting landscape. Ocean and mountain landscape photography is mostly about the landscape itself, tied to the reality of the scene and the whims of the weather, colour and light.
